I have used the Interswitch Online Payment service for more than 2 years, however, i have on several occasions noticed that the system rejects payments of any amount greater than three thousand naira (N3000). Recently, Interswitch introduced the 'Safetoken service' which is "a system that generates a 6-8 digit One-Time-Password (OTP) whenever a transaction is initiated via the Interswitch Web Payment Platform".
To use this service, a user must first register for it.
Registering for the Interswitch Safetoken Service
Registering for the Safetoken enables you carry out transactions on any web merchant site that has integrated to the interswitch Payment gateway using a One Time Password (OTP) as a second level authentication process in addition to your Card Number, PIN and CVV2 code. Here are the steps required to register for Interswitch Safetoken service.
HOW TO REGISTER FOR SAFETOKEN
There are two ways to register for this service: ATM registration and Online registration. Please note that a surcharge of N100 may be applicable to each successful registration.A). ATM registration:
- Go to the nearest ATM, and insert your ATM card
- Input your 4-digit PIN and press Enter
- Select your bank account type eg Savings or Current
- Select the ‘Quickteller’ option from the ATM menu screen
- Select ‘Pay Bills’ from the Quickteller menu list on the ATM screen
- Select ‘Others’ for the bill payment menu option list
- Enter ‘322222”as the Biller Code
- Enter your Phone Number as the Customer Reference Number and select ‘Proceed’
- You will get a display “Do you want to make this payment?” Amount Due:N1
- DO NOT edit the amount to be paid
- Click on “Pay amount due”
- You will then get a confirmation page indicating the registration was successful
Registration can also be done online via www.quickteller.com but your bank will need to validate your web registration before it becomes active. So you can also contact your bank directly to validate you, after registering on the quickteller website.
USING THE SAFETOKEN SERVICE
Once registration is completed and activated, the Safetoken service is ready for use. Each time you are prompted to input an OTP on a merchant’s website, you will be prompted to send an SMS to “30010” from your registered mobile number and an OTP will be sent to your phone via SMS. You can then enter the OTP received on the web payment page to enable you complete the payment transaction successfully.Points to note:
Please note that you may need to request for your card to be activated for online payments by your bank before you are able to utilize this service.
Your card would have been previously linked to your phone number for you to utilize this service. At the point of initiating a transaction, you may receive an OTP via hardware/software devices, grid cards or SMS and then you input this OTP on the web payment platform to complete payment.
The OTP is authorized by the Strong Authentication Server residing either at the switch or at the issuing bank and the transaction is completed as required.
The details of what should make up the SMS you are sending to 30010 will be displayed on the webpage for you to see at the point of initiating a transaction.
The OTP generated also enables you carry out interbank transfers via www.quickteller.com using the Send/Receive option available on the website.
